Red and Black Blast
The Red And Back Blast is an event hosted by the IDD center every year in an effort to raise money! In 2025 the associates and I were asked to create pieces of art that could be sold during the event! I was very excited for the associates to get the opportunity to sell their art for money even if they weren’t getting the proceeds themselves.
We created a large one of a kind mural made of glass that was sold for over 800 dollars! The associates were able to to place pieces of red, black or white frit onto a glass pane with any design they wanted, and then we sent that to a glass blowing company to melt and assemble the final image!
End of Semester Art Show
While the Red and Black Blast was a great oppertunity for the associates to get their work sold and shown to a larger audience, not many of the associates actually attended the ceremony. I wanted to host an event that was for the associates, and still gave them the chance to show off their portfolios! At the end of the semester, I had associates choose 3 of their best works to place in the art show. We worked together to create an artist statement that explained who they were and then we hosted the event. We created fliers that were hung around campus and invited their parents to join!
